Festivals You Haven’t Heard Of

Festivals you haven’t heard of actually outnumber festivals you do. Why? Well they’re usually marketed to a specific area – normally a country. Croatia for instance, that world capital of festivals, has several in well known spot Zrce beach which we can guarantee you’ve never heard of. Over time this changes, as ever more curious crowds start to explore new places – which explains the birth of Exit Serbia, the ski festivals and, well, all of Croatia. All this excites an outfit likes ourselves hugely. We’re keen to explore ever more random events. For now though here’s an initial hitlist of festivals you probably haven’t heard of, that we’d love to check out…

4Every1 Festival

When: 25-26th June
Where: Madrid
Why: This stormer of an event takes place outside of Madrid. A glance at their video-heavy website reveals a fairly mainstream / big-room (can we still say EDM?) line-up. Look closer however and their “Green Area” stage has a stonking techno roster…
Line Up Highlights: Luciano, The Martinez Brothers, Art Department, Carl Craig…

Astropolis

When: 1-3 July
Where: Brest, France
Why: Taking place in the French city of Brest (be careful how you Google that) Astropolis is a little known event that packs a hefty tech house punch. That’s really all we know about it. But it’s in France, so presumably the weather’s good, the food’s nice and the local population are friendly, if utterly unavailable for casual encounters.
Line up: Len Faki, Agoria, Maceo Plex, Nastia, Kerri Chandler…

Movement Torino

When: TBC – Usually October
Where: Torino, Italy
Why: The European chapter of the famous Movement Detroit, Movement Torino has been running for almost a decade in the industrial city of Torino. The whole affair takes place in a former Fiat factory the size of a large airport terminal, and is one of Italy’s best loved techno events. A tall order, for a nation that is arguably even more into techno than the Germans…
Line Up: TBC, but previously Ellen Allien, Floorplan, Kerri Chandler, Joseph Capriati…

Visio Festival

When: 1-2 July
Where: Helsinki
Why: To start with, it’s in Helsinki. Realistically, how many of your friends can say they’ve been there before? It’s held in a courtyard between a series of buildings and uses plenty of concept art and visuals. Expect a strong Scandinavian twist on a Gottwood style vibe.
Line Up: Todd Terje, Levon Vincent, Detroit Swindle, Hunee, secretsundaze, Wolf Music

Wave Week

When: 13-20 August
Where: Croatia
Why: It’s the world’s first floating festival. Wave Week comprises a flotilla of yachts making their way up the Croatian coastline, stopping daily at abandoned beaches, ruined forts and sleep town promenades each of which are promptly transformed into fully fledged festival sites for just a few hours, then the event moves on.
Line up: Simian Mobile Disco, wAFF, Anja Schneider, Crazy P
